Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt through the years

Brad Pitt, left, and Angelina Jolie arrive at the AFI Awards at The Four Seasons Hotel on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 in Los Angeles.

One of Hollywood’s most powerful couples, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have split.
Jolie filed for divorce on September 16, 2016.
The couple met on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith and started a relationship soon after. Let’s look back at their journey together.

Pitt and Jolie first met in 2004 on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The duo exhibited sizzling onscreen chemistry. Pitt was married to actress Jennifer Aniston at the time. (Pictured) Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in a still from Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
After announcing his split from Aniston in January 2005, Pitt took part in a photoshoot with Jolie for W magazine in July. Titled "Domestic Bliss," the photos showed them as a couple with children. Aniston criticized Pitt as having a "sensitivity chip missing" following this photoshoot. (Pictured) Jolie and Pitt at the 20th Century Fox Luncheon in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S., on March 17, 2005.
Speculations of their courtship did rounds, but it wasn't until January 2006 when Jolie became pregnant with their first child that the two formally commented on their relationship. (Pictured) Jolie and Pitt at the premiere of "The Good Shepherd" in 2006.
Over the years, Jolie and Pitt not just grew as a couple, but also as a family. They have six children together — three biological and three adopted.
In May 2006, Jolie gave birth to daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt in Namibia. (Pictured) Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt arrive for the premiere of "Ocean's 13" at the Cannes Film festival on May 25, 2007.
